A Green Day Out

If the Stern Report has got you thinking, perhaps you might be interested in joining the UK part of the Global Climate Campaign march that is taking place this Saturday in London. The march is also taking place in many countries across the world: see the website for more details.

In other news, a report from the Friars Court green farm open day that I mentioned a few days ago.

The event brought many visitors, who were given a tour of the farm's energy technologies, including a solar PV (photovoltaic) array, and wood coppicing scheme.

The event also saw talks on energy saving methods by representatives from Thames Valley Energy, and stalls demonstrating solar heating technologies.
The highlight of the day was, of course, the 'build a wind turbine challenge'. Three teams competed; two both using a similar design - horizontal axis turbines. The third team, of which I was part, decided to demonstrate the problems associated with vertical axis turbines (in other words, we lost quite spectacularly). However, we feel that our design was the more attractive of the three...
